FIRE ALARMS
Keeping your family safe not only means keeping the bad guys out, but also making sure that if something goes wrong on the inside, you and your loved ones have time to get out safely. A working and regularly tested fire alarm system is an essential piece of equipment for homeowners.

How we can help
For private homeowners, there is no direct legal requirement for formal, scheduled maintenance visits by a professional. However, fire and rescue services highly recommend the following:
-
Monthly testing - Press the test button on all smoke alarms at least once a month to ensure that they are working.
-
Annual battery changes - For battery-operated alarms, replace the batteries at least once a year (unless they are "sealed for life" 10-year batteries). The batteries are typically within the mounted detectors.
-
Alarm replacement - Replace the entire smoke alarm unit every 10 years, as the sensors degrade over time
Not following these recommendations could leave you unprepared if the unthinkable were to happen.
If you are a landlord, there are strict legal requirements to be aware of. That includes those of you who rent out a spare room!
